The American Way

This poem was inspired when Covid-19 cancelled many firework displays on the 4th of July, INDEPENDENCE DAY. Despite the virus, neighborhoods held mini celebrations with cookouts and listening to music. It’s the American way to celebrate liberty.

————

Turmoil lashes out

with the closing of the gate,

no bang illuminating the night sky,

no whistles or palm trees adorning the vault of heaven,

to celebrate our freedom on Independence Day.

Keeping our forefathers in mind,

remembering the American Way,

no time to sit and moan

as the calendar rolls on,

with the hands on the clock ticking away.

Neighborhoods plan mini celebrations,

keeping spirits high

with hamburgers and hotdogs sizzling on the grill,

music dancing across the air,

and laughter taking center stage.

Communities stand together hand in hand,

proud to be an American

displaying free will,

with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness

forever ringing.
